The New Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co.

I’ve loved Schoolhouse Electric for awhile and now I’m completely obsessed with their expanded line of furniture, home accessories and hardware. Take a peak at their virtual catalog here. I think the furniture and styling is beautiful and inspiring:
I love the pops of color and vintage feel. I’m obsessed with this kitchen (I want to paint our cherry cabinets so badly!!). I love the hardware along with the touch of blue from the steel utility stool. The dresser and chair in the room below are so beautiful, the whole room feels warm and cheerful and who doesn’t love an Edison bulb ?
Take a peak at their website and hopefully you’re as impressed as I am!

What do you get the baby who has everything?

While this crib could completely freak out your little one (would they feel like they’re constantly on the verge of falling out? or maybe even more problematic and most likely what my little guy would do, not understand that they’re actually enclosed and try to make a crawl for it in a hasty escape to the nearest electrical outlet) you have to admit it’s pretty inventive. I’ve never seen a crib like it and after looking at way more nursery furniture than one could possibly want, that’s saying a lot.
So what will this trendy, lucite, ludicrous baby bed set you back… a cool $3000. I think Oliver is going to have to be content with his Target crib.

Advice from Rosita Missoni

I have to thank my friend Lisa for passing along a short but interesting WSJ interview with the 79 year old Rosita Missoni. Not surprisingly, Rosita seems like a very sharp lady and I loved her insight on decorating, which included the following nugget.
“If you’re going to invest in one big piece for the home, it should be an extremely comfortable, well designed couch; a huge mirror, or a funny-shaped colorful rug to light up a forgotten corner.”
Of course, this got me thinking about the pieces in my home. I’ve finally nailed down the perfect couch (at least for now). It’s the Mitchell Gold Alex sectional upholstered in a luxurious, espresso velvet. The cushions are soft but still have structure and the couch isn’t too deep, which is important considering Joe and I aren’t the tallest people in the world.
Big mirror, check. Awhile back we got one from Restoration Hardware. It’s been a great purchase although if I wanted something a bit more unusual I’d probably get the Grayson Mirror from Oly Studio (pictured above).
Lastly, a “funny-shaped colorful rug”. I’ll admit I’m not super big on oddly shaped rugs but I’ve had my eye on the “Diagonal Bead Blue” rug from The Rug Company. The grey blue color is made of silk while the white dots are wool, which makes the entire rug sumptuous and simply stunning.
Following Rosita’s words of wisdom, which dream pieces would you invest in?
