Today is my birthday and in my opinion one of the best things about birthdays is the cake (or at least the relief of not having to feel guilty about eating sweets). So, in celebration I decided to treat myself to the macarons from Miette. Their macarons are like biting into a little piece of heaven and if I could live off these perfect confections without being bigger than a house, I would.
But in addition to the pleasure of eating their macarons, is the pleasure of visiting Miette to purchase them. This patisserie is beautiful. It’s so feminine and delicate that you half expect Angelina Ballerina herself to pirouette up to the counter and order a princess cake. It’s refreshing to go into a store where presentation is as important as the product, which makes the whole process feel indulgent and special, the perfect birthday combination.
As I officially become a late twenty-something and my life becomes undeniably that of a real adult, it was wonderful to be in Miette and for a moment feel like a little girl surrounded by sweets, whose biggest decision was picking out the perfect cake that would hold the candles to be blown out for her perfect wish… even if it was just until they finished ringing up my purchase.
