Live in Style!

A different kind of Sundance January 26, 2009

picture-72

As I mentioned last week, I love going to open houses and this weekend was no exception. We saw a charming little Spanish style bungalow in Mill Valley. While the house was cute, I was much more intrigued by the furnishings and of course harassed the owner about where she found all her pieces. One of the vendors she uses is Sundance furniture. You can order online and they have store locations in Marin and Colorado.

While they also sell clothes (which just aren’t really my style), I’m obsessed with their home department. They carry amazing vintage/retro inspired pieces (pictured above are the “Wide Draper’s cabinet” $995, “Steamer trunk end table” $800, “1934 Dining Chair” $245). I love the dining chairs and they can also be used outdoors if you coat them with a lacquer finish. The pieces are unique and would add a dash of originality to any room. Take a peak at their site. I’m planning to visit the Marin store this week and I’ll let you know how it goes!

Ikat has had a great run these past couple seasons and some might argue it’s on the way out. That being said, I’m still a fan. I just wouldn’t invest a ton of money on it and would stick to the smaller accessory pieces, which is why this Ikat agenda from Cursive New York could be the perfect touch to your 2009 accessories. The agenda book comes in large and small with 240 gold-edged pages, week-at-view format and (in case you’re suddenly lost and between your computer, iPhone and navi still can’t figure out where you are) beautiful world maps. Take a peak!

Designer Spotlight: Roberto Burle Marx January 21, 2009

picture-3

Yesterday, the NY Times ran an article and wonderful slideshow presentation featuring the works of Brazilian landscape designer, painter and all around artist, Roberto Marx. Marx was the first to truly create tropical gardens in Brazil. He was also a painter, set, costume and jewelry designer. His work will be featured at the Paço Imperial museum until March and then travels to São Paulo.

What really caught my eye are the above street murals that grace the sidewalks of Copacabana beach in Rio. Isn’t it just a beautiful design? I’ll admit, when I saw the thumbnail picture of it I thought the pattern was wallpaper and got really excited ( I probably shouldn’t admit that). While I was a little disappointed about the wallpaper thing, I did decide where to go on my next vacation. Art on beach sidewalks … who could pass that up?! Take a look at the Times article for more details about Marx and the exhibit- Marx article.
